It is home to an astonishing array of unique plants and remarkable wildlife, with over 700 different species of animals, more than 200 mammals, including the orang utans, 190 reptiles and amphibians, and 380 birds. In this 4-day Sumatra Eco Adventure, you will experience the nocturnal life of the tropical rainforest, where you will see the famous orang utans swing freely in their habitat. If you are lucky, you will also encounter Thomas leaf monkeys, pigtail macaques, gibbons, Sumatran peacocks, hornbills, and flying squirrels during your trip.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Medan – Bukit Lawang

Upon arrival at Kuala Namu International airport, collect your luggage, then proceed to the arrival hall where you will be met by a BIH representative, holding a sign with your name on it. You will then be taken by a private transfer to Bukit Lawang, the gateway to Gunung Leuser Nationa Park, which is approximately 4 hours’ drive away. Afterwards, check in to your hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2: Bukit Lawang – Gunung Leuser National Park

After breakfast, meet your guide and commence your trek to Taman Nasional Gunung Leuser, the remaining habitat for Sumatran orangutans. This will be a full-day trek, so make sure you wear comfortable clothes and sturdy shoes. Overnight in a tent by the river to experience jungle life. Lunch and dinner are included.

Day 3: Gunung Leuser National Park – Bukit Lawang

Enjoy waking up to a stunning view of the jungle and the sound of the river in the morning. After breakfast, your guide will take you to the beautiful waterfall nearby, where you can have a swim. Afterwards, you will have some relaxing time and lunch by the river before going back to Bukit Lawang on a tube. Bukit Lawang is a beautiful small village situated along the banks of the Bohorok River. It is just the perfect spot to chill out after your trek. If you feel like doing a small walk, we recommend visiting the bat cave. This is a self-guided activity that takes around an hour easy walk through a rubber tree plantation.

Day 4: Bukit Lawang – Medan

After breakfast and checking out, meet your driver in the lobby for your private transfer to the airport (or to your Medan hotel if you’re staying on).
