While Mt. Batur can be challenging for some people, Mt. Agung is another level. To climb Mt. Agung, you need to be regularly active and have a great fitness level.
Pasar Agung Temple offers a shorter route and does not involve camping. This trek takes approximately 4-5 hours to reach the summit; however, trekking is prohibited during ceremonies at the temple.
For a safer trekking experience, it’s advisable to climb Mount Agung during the dry season between April and September. In contrast, the rainy season can make the paths slippery, increasing the risk of accidents.
Climbing the Agung Volcano is prohibited during ceremonies at Besakih and Pasar Agung Temple.
In addition to the above, women who are experiencing their menstrual cycle are not permitted to climb the sacred mountain. According to Balinese tradition, disregarding these restrictions will bring unfortunate events for the climbers.
