Bali Golf Holiday: Best Courses, Season & Trip Planning

Ready for the ultimate Bali golf trip? We've designed this 7-day Bali Golf Package to give you the perfect mix of incredible golf, jaw-dropping scenery, and the amazing culture that makes Bali so special. Your journey kicks off with a couple of nights in the mountains at a stunning resort, where you'll be surrounded by lush green landscapes. Here, you'll play a round at Handara Golf & Resort Bali and explore iconic temples like Ulun Danu and Taman Ayun nearby.

A good Bali golf holiday combines two or three contrasting rounds with time that has nothing to do with golf. The island’s main courses are spread across different landscapes: clifftop holes above the Indian Ocean on the Bukit Peninsula, resort-flat fairways at Nusa Dua, a cool crater-rim course in the highlands at Bedugul and an ocean-edge course in Tabanan near Tanah Lot. They are a few hours apart at most, so you can play very different golf without changing countries.

Below is how those courses differ, when to play, how rounds work in practice, and how to fold golf into a trip that also suits non-golfing family and friends. If you would rather see a ready-made structure, our Bali golf package shows how rounds, accommodation and private transfers can be assembled.

The courses in more detail

Nusa Dua and the Bukit Peninsula

The southern end of Bali has the highest concentration of luxury hotels and the shortest transfers from the airport, which is useful on arrival and departure days. Bali National in Nusa Dua is the easier option for a first round after a long flight. New Kuta Golf at Pecatu is the better pick for views, and its exposed position means wind is part of the round. Staying around Uluwatu, Jimbaran or Nusa Dua keeps both within short drives.

Bali Handara, Bedugul

Handara sits at roughly 1,100 metres above sea level, noticeably cooler than the coast. Mornings are often misty, and afternoon cloud and rain are common. Allow about two hours or more from the south, depending on traffic, and treat it as a full-day outing. Many golfers combine it with a lake temple or a plantation visit nearby.

Nirwana, Tabanan

Nirwana is a Greg Norman design on the coast of Tabanan, close to Tanah Lot temple. It suits a route that moves from the south toward Ubud or north Bali, or an extension to a stay in the Tabanan countryside.

Sanur

The Bali Beach course is a relaxed round for golfers staying in Sanur, and it works well for travellers who want a calm base with sea access and easy ferry access to Nusa Penida.

Best time to play

The dry season, generally from about April to October, is the most reliable window, with lower humidity and clearer fairways. The wet season brings afternoon showers, particularly inland, but morning rounds are often still possible. Early tee times are sensible year-round: it is cooler, and the course is quieter.

How Bali golf works in practice

  • Caddies are standard at most Bali courses, and are part of the round rather than an optional extra. Check current fees and tipping conventions.
  • Club hire is widely available, but if you are particular about your set, check hire quality beforehand or travel with your own clubs.
  • Pace and heat. A round in Bali’s humidity can be tiring, even for fit golfers. Hydrate more than you think you need to.
  • Dress code. Collared shirts and golf footwear are the usual expectation. Check each club’s policy.
  • Bali traffic is unpredictable. Build in time rather than assuming a fixed journey length, especially from Ubud or the south to the highlands.

Sample 7-night itinerary

NightsBaseGolf and activities
1–3Nusa Dua or UluwatuOne round at Bali National, one at New Kuta. Spa afternoon, sunset at Uluwatu.
4–5UbudRest day. Cooking class, rice terraces, private cultural guide.
6–7Bedugul or TabananRound at Handara or Nirwana. Temple visit. Return to the south for departure.

If your group includes non-golfers, this structure gives them guided days in Ubud and spa time, while golfers play on the coastal days.

Golf with non-golfing partners and families

Bali handles mixed groups better than most golf destinations. Beach clubs, wellness retreats, cultural tours, surf lessons and private guides are all available within an hour or so of most courses. A private driver and guide mean golfers can leave early while the rest of the group follows a separate plan, and everyone meets for dinner. For the wider picture of what the island offers, see our guide to Badung Regency, where several of the southern courses sit.

Common mistakes

  • Scheduling too many rounds back to back. Two or three rounds in a week is a sensible pace alongside other activities.
  • Treating all courses as equal. The coast and the highlands play very differently, so choose for variety.
  • Underestimating transfers. A round at Handara from the south is a long day.
  • Ignoring local customs. At temples and in villages, dress modestly. See our Indonesia dos and don’ts for practical etiquette.

Which Bali golf course has the best views? New Kuta Golf on the Bukit Peninsula is known for its clifftop holes, and Nirwana for its coastal setting.
