It is rich with culture, fascinating archaeological sites, and spectacular landscapes and seascapes.  With extensive ground to cover, it might take a whole year to explore this vast archipelago, and it’s nearly impossible to see everything in one trip. However, we have created an ideal itinerary and highlighting breathtaking has to offer. This is Indonesia in Nutshell; for those who wish to see the multicultural have around 2 weeks for the holiday.

Itinerary:

 

Day 1: Arrival into Yogyakarta

Upon arrival at Adisucipto International Airport, also known as Yogyakarta Airport, collect your luggage then proceed to the arrival hall where you will be met by a BIH representative holding sign with your name on it, before being taken to your accommodation in Magellan (approx. 1 hour away). Check in to your hotel and have the remainder of the day at leisure.

Day 2: Borobudur Temple & Mt. Merapi on 4WD

Get up at 5 am to see the sunrise from Candi Borobudur, the largest Buddhist temple in the world. Admire the unique structure and architectural of this UNESCO World heritage site  which took more than 75 years to construct.

Proceed to Mendut Temple, a ninth-century 26.4 Buddhist Temple which has become a meditation centre and other Buddhism practises and rituals.

Afterwards, embark on an adventurous 4WD ride admiring the epic scenery of Mt. Merapi from different viewpoints. After the exhilarating trip, your guide will take you to the small museum and tell you about the latest eruption that occurred in 2010 that took the lives of over 350 people.

Day 3: Sultan Palace, Sambisari Temple, Ratu Boko Palace Remains & Prambanan Temple

Today you will visit Sultan Palace, a palace complex built in 1755–1756 in the reign of Sultan Hamengku Buwono I (The King 1) which has now become a centre of Javanese culture. 

Next, visit Sambisari, a Shiva Hindu temple built in the 9th-century.  Continuing on to Ratu Boko, a palace remains located in Bokoharjo village. This archaeological site was built in the 8th century during the reign of Syailendra Dynasty. 

Afterwards explore Prambanan, the largest Hindu Temple compound in Indonesia, dedicated to Shiva. This temple complex consists of 240 temples, built in the 10th century AD during the heyday of Sailendra dynasty. 

The temples collapsed due to volcanic eruption, earthquake, and political influence in the early 11th century. They were rediscovered in the late 17th century. Restoration works have been done to strengthen the temple structure; however, nothing has been changed or displaced to retain the authenticity.

There is a Ramayana Ballet Performance held on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at Prambanan Temple. Open stage and is available in the dry season May to October and from January to April & November & December the show is held indoor at Trimurti Stage. The show is subject to additional cost and must be booked in advance.

Day 4: Yogyakarta to Surabaya Flight

After checking out, meet your driver at the hotel lobby for your private transfer to the airport for your onward flight to Surabaya. Upon arrival, your driver will be waiting to transfer you to your hotel (approx. 4 hours). Check in to your room and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 5: Explore Mt. Bromo Incl. Picnic Breakfast

Discover the caldera and its natural wonder at a leisure pace and immerse yourself in the storied surroundings of Mt. Bromo.  Begin your adventure with some breathtaking views of sunrise from the top of Penanjakan Peak.

Afterwards, descent the green lush slope of Mt. Bromo with the rising sun and venture into the savannah, an exquisite setting for a picnic breakfast while taking in the beauty of Mt. Bromo. Finish the epic journey by visiting the sacred Poten Temple & Bromo Caldera.

Enjoy the afternoon at leisure. Suggested activities for the afternoon (subject to an additional cost):

Day 6:  Surabaya to Labuan Bajo Flight

After a sumptuous breakfast and check-out, meet your driver in the lobby for your private transfer to Juanda Airport, for your onward flight to Labuan Bajo. Upon arrival at Labuan Bajo Airport, collect your luggage and meet your driver at the arrival hall for your private transfer you to your hotel (approx. 15 minutes). Check in your hotel and enjoy the remainder of your day at leisure.

Day 7: Labuan Bajo, Kelor Island, Manjarite Island, Kalong Island

Morning transfer to Labuan Bajo Harbour where you will board your boat for your 2-day Komodo National Park cruise. The first destination will be Kelor Island, a small island offering a nice short trek with rewarding view. Have a swim while taking in the sensational view of the surroundings before moving on to Manjarite Island for snorkelling. Lunch will be served on board.

Continue on to Kalong Island, famous for the spectacular view of flying bats under the sunset. Enjoy a lovely dinner on board whilst admiring the golden sunset. Overnight on the boat.

Day 8: Padar Island, Pink Beach, Komodo Islands, Manta Point, Taka Makassar, Labuan Bajo

You will have an early start today to see the breathtaking view of the National Park from the top of picturesque Padar Island. You won’t find komodo or dinosaur here but you can find a place that looks like a Jurassic Park here! With beaches stretching out in all directions, giant bays, and rocky hills, Padar Island is definitely a must visit island while exploring the Komodo Island National Park.

 Back on the boat for some breakfast while slowly sailing to Pink Beach, famous for its bright pink powdery sand contrasting with the turquoise waters that surround the island. Here you can relax and soak up the beach’s natural beauty, or snorkel at tropical fish and corals.

 After lunch on board, you will continue on your journey to Komodo Island. Your short trek on the island will be led by a local guide (Ranger) to see the topmost predator, the Komodo Dragon and other wildlife, such as long-tailed macaque, wild horses, orange-footed scrub fowls, fulvous breasted woodpeckers, wild pigs, wild buffaloes, wild dogs, etc.

 Continue sailing to Manta Point in the search of Manta Rays. This huge marine creature can grow up to 4 meters wide, though huge in size, they are considered as the unharmed sea animals.

 Before heading back to Labuan Bajo, you will visit Taka Makassar, a small sandbank in the middle of the sea. Admire the crystal clear and the beauty that surrounds the sandbank.

Upon arrival at Labuan Bajo Harbour, your driver will be waiting to transfer you to your hotel. Check in and overnight at Labuan Bajo hotel.

 Day 9: Goa Rangko, Labuan Bajo to Denpasar Bali Flight

Following breakfast, meet your guide at the hotel lobby for your private transfer to Tanjung Boleng (approx 30 minutes away) where you will take a traditional boat to Goa Rangko Cave. The boat trip takes approximately 20 minutes. hen do a short trek to the cave. Bring wet slippers and swimsuit if you wish to swim in the natural blue pool inside the cave. Afterwards, head back to Labuan Bajo for check out and transfer to Labuan Bajo Airport for your onward flight to Bali.

Upon arrival, meet your driver at the arrival hall for your private transfer to your hotel in Ubud (approx. 1.5 hours). The remainder of the day is at leisure.

Day 10: Taman Ayun,  Jatiluwih Rice Terrace, Ulundanu Temple, and  Twin Banyuwamala Waterfalls

Today you will visit Taman Ayun Temple, a compound of Balinese Temple and beautiful garden. Continue on to Jatiluwih rice terrace, a UNESCO Heritage Site.

After a delicious lunch at a local restaurant (payable onsite), you will then continue your trip to Ulundanu Temple, a major water temple in Bali. 

Finally, explore Banyumala, one of the best waterfalls in Bali. This hidden gem consists of plenty of tiny waterfalls converging into a natural pool.

Day 11: Ubud & The Countryside Tour

This morning you visit the Kintamani countryside, famous for the spectacular view of Mt. Batur. 

Afterwards, visit Tirta Empul, a Vishnu temple founded in 926 A.D. This temple is considered as the busiest water temple in Bali where the Hindu Balinese people are doing purification rituals. You can expect a big crowd during full moon, new moon and many other days that’s considered sacred by the Balinese. 

Next you will visit the stunning Gunung Kawi Temple, an archaeological site that was built in 1080 AD. You will see beautiful shrines carved on the wall at the cliff of Gianyar Pakerisan River.

Continue on to Ubud Monkey Forest and sum up your tour with a visit at Ubud Art Market.

Day 12: Day at Leisure

You have today free at leisure to relax or enjoy the region further. While at leisure in Ubud, we suggest the following activities (subject to an additional cost).

Balinese cooking class: embark on a culinary adventure uncovering the secrets of authentic Balinese cooking, using local ingredients and traditional preparation methods.

ATV ride: Get off-the-beaten-track and discover Bali’s varied landscapes, overgrown jungles, rushing rivers, and lush rice paddies on an ATV quad bike.

White water rafting: Embark on a thrilling and exhilarating journey along Bali’s epic scenic and longest river, the Ayung River, with the best equipment, safety, facilities, and service.

Batur trekking: embark on a guided hike to the top of Mt. Batur where you can witness the mesmerizing view of the sunrise over the sublime Bali horizon.

Scuba diving: Discover one of the best shipwreck dives in the world, the USAT Liberty Shipwreck, offering an incredible variety of marine life or dive with the majestic manta rays in Nusa Penida. While the shipwreck is suitable for all levels including non-certified divers, unfortunately Nusa Penida is only for advanced or experienced divers. In addition to these popular dive sites, there are also a few other nice ones, Snorkelling trips are also available.

Spa: Pamper and rejuvenate yourself with relaxing Balinese massages and spa treatments.

Day 13: Departure

After almost 2-week of fun adventures filled with memories, it is now the time to bid farewell to your driver/guide. End your Indonesia in a Nutshell holiday with a private transfer to Bali International Airport.
